Ask about a team that was struggling and what they did. You are listening for specifics: what the problem was, what changed and how they knew it worked.
Ask how they handle stakeholders who keep changing priorities. Every real team has them.
How does a contract Scrum Master engagement work?
Most freelance engagements run two to five days a week for one to six months. Part time is normal and often ideal, because a Scrum Master should build the team's own habits, not become a permanent crutch.
Agree what success looks like at the start: predictable delivery, fewer surprises, clearer priorities, or a team that runs its own ceremonies confidently.
